"I spent over a decade using heroine and being incarcerated. Thanks to the resources and support provided to me by New Leaf, New Life, I was led to the places that paved my recovery. I graduated from Amethyst House in June of 2024 and then moved into Courage to Change.
Currently, I am of service to the NA community and hold a position in my home group. I also just recently moved into my own apartment! I exercise my passion for recovery by doing hair in a treatment center. I have a good relationship with my kids and am present in their lives.
Thank you to everyone who has loved, supported, and encouraged me. And thank you to Problem Solving Court for providing structure and accountability."
“New Leaf New Life didn’t just help me get back on my feet—it helped me change the direction of my life. Coming out of incarceration, I had no plan, no stability, and no real sense of hope. The support I received—both practical and personal—gave me the foundation I needed to grow. Today, I serve on the Board of Directors at New Leaf New Life because I believe in giving back what was given to me. This organization stands for second chances, accountability, and community. It gave me the tools to rebuild—and the belief that I could”
“New Leaf New Life believed in me until I started believing in myself. The classes held at the county jail and the communication from them while in prison helped me get into the sober living house that I am currently in. Starting over completely with nothing after incarceration left me extremely overwhelmed and anxious to know exactly where to find my footing. I didn’t realize it at the time, but that was where my miracle started, with that first class in the jail. Now, my whole life has changed for the better, it is truly a life I want to live now. I hold myself accountable for the decisions I make, and my actions match my words now. This organization gave me a second chance when I thought there was none for me. I can only keep what I have by giving it away, and I’ll gratefully give all that I have. Doing the next right thing and leading by example makes me the happiest. It is a blessing to know that an organization like New Leaf New Life has my back. Thank you so much for the opportunity to shine and straightening my crown!”
“The Montgomery County Sheriff’s office transported me cuffed up, still wearing my orange jumpsuit and size 12 shoes, without laces (I usually wear 9s). I was headed to the Amethyst house. After my intake, they directed me to New Leaf New Life for their services. When I arrived at the door, I was greeted by Misty. She immediately made me feel like I belonged in this new town. She even set me up with a few outfits and my own pair of shoes. Since that day I have worked the program and my butt off to become a valuable member of our society. It has given me everything from materialistic items, my recovery family, my wifey and a son on the way. Thank you from the deepest part of heart”
“My journey has been both challenging and inspiring, highlighting my resilience and growth. Transitioning from prison to the Amethyst House became a significant turning point in my life. The structured environment and the unwavering support from fellow participants and staff equipped me with the tools I needed to confront my addiction head-on. Graduating from that program wasn't just a milestone; it marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with hope and determination. That initial success sparked a newfound belief in my ability to reclaim my life, allowing me to turn over a new leaf and embrace a fresh start.
Despite this promising beginning, I faced obstacles that tested my resolve. Engaging with the Courage to Change program was a testament to my commitment to recovery; however, experiencing a relapse reminded me of the complex nature of addiction. I chose not to view this setback as a failure but rather as an opportunity for growth and reflection. New leaf new life welcomed me with open arms to provide me with support and resources to help me get back on the right path. Understanding the intricacies of my addiction has been crucial; my ability to acknowledge my struggles has guided me on my journey towards healing, leading me to reevaluate my choices and strengthen my commitment to sobriety.
Today, as I celebrate five months of sobriety, I honor the progress I have made. Each day of recovery symbolizes not just the absence of substances but the presence of new possibilities and the excitement of a new life. My story is one of strength and renewal, demonstrating that setbacks can lead to greater self-awareness and resilience. As I continue on this path, I remember the tools and support systems I have built and embrace the brighter future that lies ahead. My journey serves as an inspiration to others facing similar struggles, proving that recovery is possible and that a new leaf can lead to a fulfilling new life.”

“Helping people with imperfect pasts get a leg up when facing difficulties. They truly do help people and are very good at it. Compassionate and selfless.”
"So I came to new leaf, new life shortly after my incarceration when my housing plan didn’t work out. I was fresh out of jail on problem solving court and didn’t know what to do. My friend told me about NLNL and to call and talk with a woman named misty. When I reached out she immediately helped me with a place at courage to change. That’s was the start of my recovery and from there it only got better. I was giving the help I needed to continuously work through my program. I have a good life now. A full time job, a car, motorcycle, great friends, I go to the gym almost everyday, I have genuine connections with people that I’ve never had before. I’m responsible, dependable and honest. I couldn’t have done it without NLNL, Courage to Change and Problem solving court. Although problem solving court has helped change my life I’ve encountered a few mishaps that led me to do community service. I’m grateful they let me do my community service hours there because of the environment. I’ve got to witness the help and hope they having been giving to the community from people experiencing hardship. The staff is truly amazing and care about people. I am impressed that there is a place like this and hope more people can see the impact has on people’s lives."
“New Leaf New Life has been a big part of my recovery by providing a safe, supportive place to heal. The program has helped me build accountability, healthy routines, and better ways to handle life’s challenges. It has also given me hope and shown me that I don’t have to recover alone. I’m grateful for the tools I’ve learned and the chance to build a better future.”
“New Leaf New Life is truly an extraordinary organization, and it's a privilege to dedicate my time and energy as a volunteer here.
My personal journey towards recovery found a pivotal turning point when two remarkable individuals, Heather and Misty, extended a transformative opportunity. Their belief in me provided the essential pathway to fulfill the volunteer requirements for my own recovery program, a critical step that fundamentally altered my trajectory.
The unique spirit of this place is undeniably forged by the unwavering dedication and compassionate efforts of its entire staff. Their daily commitment to fostering an environment of hope and practical support is truly inspiring. At its core, New Leaf New Life is profoundly dedicated to empowering individuals by connecting them with vital resources and opening doors to new opportunities within the community. This mission of 'giving back' is not just a philosophy; it's a tangible lifeline for so many.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my involvement here is the profound ability to forge meaningful relationships and strengthen community bonds. Witnessing the positive ripple effect of even a small act of kindness, knowing I've been able to support even one person in their journey each day, fills me with an unparalleled sense of purpose and accomplishment.
Ultimately, New Leaf New Life has illuminated a powerful truth for me: the incredible strength that lies in vulnerability and the willingness to accept support. It underscores that no one needs to navigate life's challenges in isolation; a compassionate community and helping hands are always within reach.
My deepest gratitude goes out to Heather and Misty, whose vision and kindness continue to resonate deeply within me and countless others.”
“I just celebrated 3 years of recovery from alcohol and heroin. After spending over a decade incarcerated and in and out of homelessness, I had nothing left. I'm proud to say, with the resources and staff New Leaf New Life offered, I was able to receive structure and help through multiple reentry resources. I have been a member of Drug / Re-Entry Court since Summer of 2021 and graduated Amethyst House in 2023. After graduating, I was accepted into Courage to Change. I now have my own place, a vehicle, and hold a secretary position in my home group. I'm also active Alumni Coordinator for Chapter 5 and Alumni State Secretary for Oxford House, Indiana. Helping other addicts regularly is my passion and helps me to give back.
I start school online in September for my Associate's Degree in Human and Social Services so I can further my dream of working with addicts like myself, and giving back what was freely given to me through the rooms of NA. Staying sober, having a sponsor, working the steps and staying connected has helped me to attain a village of amazing women in recovery to call on when I need support, which is something I've never had before. Today, I'm active in my son's and family's lives.
I try to practice gratitude each day for all these things I have and all the goals I've achieved. None of them would be possible without the encouragement and support of New Leaf New Life, Amethyst House, Courage To Change, Problem Solving Courts, Narcotics Anonymous, and Oxford House.”
“New leaf new life has helped me immensely with opportunities necessary for everyday living such as transportation to and from jobs. They have also helped me with applying for food benefits, doctors appointments, clothing, hygiene products and providing me with the opportunity to obtain a cell phone. The lovely people here are extremely helpful for the members in the community who have been involved in the legal system. I am very thankful for them and their support.”
“I’m in the re-entry court program. I’m very thankful for this program. They helped me get into sober living. I have so much gratitude for the opportunities this program has for people. In my case, if it was not for these programs, I would still be in jail with no help for my recovery.”
“New Leaf New Life is an amazing and very resourceful program. There is no other place I would rather spend my time volunteering. They do amazing things for the community and for people coming out of incarceration. They are very supportive and helpful to my personal recovery and I would recommend their services to anyone.”
“I appreciate and support their mission in assisting people re-enter society from correctional facilities and prisons. Ex-cons are an under-utilized, under-estimated resource too many places reject. Severely limiting a company's available workforce.”
